Coaching

I am the Assistant Coach of the Roosevelt High School JVC baseball team in Seattle, Washington. In 2008, we had an excellent turnout of freshmen, many of whom went on to play JV and even Varsity in their first years with RHS. The coaching staff of the RHS JVC team teaches the fundamentals to succeed at the high school level, including rotational hitting concepts, how to properly field their defensive position, and efficient and safe pitching mechanics.
Many of our athletes will go on to play Travel, Pony, or Select level baseball, and may want to work individually with a coach on various facets of their game. Some will just want to improve in the offseason to be prepared for the 2009 RHS baseball season, and don’t want to get rusty. Whatever the case may be, I offer affordable coaching services to all players, all ages, any skill level in the following areas:

Pitching
- Throw harder fastballs, better quality breaking balls, and sinking changeups.
- Learn to set up hitters and control both sides of the plate.
- You will understand the physiology of pitching and how to avoid mechanical flaws that lead to unnecessary injuries.
- Review your lessons on videotape to see exactly what you need to work on!

Hitting
- Hit for higher averages - making solid contact with the ball and spraying it to all fields.
- Develop greater power in your swing, leading to more doubles against the fence and home runs that clear it!
- Understand the mental approach to hitting and refining the control of the strike zone.

Strength and Conditioning
- All hitters and pitchers will undergo strength/conditioning programs.
- General focus will be on core strengthening and explosive training for all clients. Baseball is not a game of slow, repetitive movements; why train like it is?
- Pitchers will have greater focus on strengthening their rotator cuff and decelerator muscles to both increase velocity and prevent injury.
- Position players will have greater focus on overall strength and explosive speed drills to increase power in the swing and agility for the field - both on defense and on the basepaths as a runner.
Video analysis is a must for players who are seeking to improve their overall ability as a baseball player. Without video replay, it is impossible to establish a baseline performance level and note improvements along the way. Furthermore, baseball is a high-speed game, where the human eye cannot discern exactly what is happening in real-time. It requires the video review that Driveline Mechanics can provide, breaking down the exact moments in time where flaws begin to develop in slow motion video and using comparison analysis with high-level hitters to pattern a swing or pitching motion. Not all players are the same, but all successful hitters and pitchers have patterns. I will work with you to mold your personal style around a successful swing or pitch pattern. If you are currently with a coach now who does not use video, the advice is nearly worthless.
Free Performance Evaluation!
For a limited time, I will be doing free performance evaluations on new clients as I establish my coaching business. The evaluation will be a 30 minute workout and baseline performance analysis where I explain my methods of coaching and theories on hitting and pitching. If you decide that you’d like to continue with the program, great! If not, no problem.
Please contact kyle@drivelinemechanics.com to schedule a free performance evaluation.
